Privacy policy

Your information and your choices

Updated 12 September 2026

UniConnect is a social platform for university students aged 16 and above in Nigeria. This notice describes the current app and the controls available to you.

Who to contact

For privacy requests, contact uniconnecthq@gmail.com or use Privacy & Safety in the app. The operator’s registered legal name and address are awaiting confirmation; see Contact & support.

What we collect and why

Processing grounds

We use information needed to provide the service you request, fulfil applicable legal duties and protect users and the service. Optional analytics rely on your separate choice. These purposes do not turn acceptance of the Terms into blanket consent for unrelated uses.

Visibility and messages

Choose Everyone, Connections or Campus when posting. Everyone posts can be visible to people who are not signed in. Profile privacy adds a further restriction within the app. Uploaded media currently uses public hosting links: someone who already has a media link can access or share it even if its post audience is restricted. Messages are stored to deliver chat; do not assume every message or attachment is end-to-end encrypted. A recipient can retain or capture content, including view-once media. Blocking stops new direct messages and connection requests in either direction; it does not erase previous conversations.

Service providers and international processing

The app uses hosting and database infrastructure, Cloudinary for uploaded media, Resend for email, Firebase and web push for notifications, and Sentry for configured error reporting. These providers may process information outside Nigeria. The operator must maintain the applicable provider agreements and safeguards for international transfers. Google Fonts and the remote emoji-script dependency are not needed by this version.

Storage and retention

Account and content records remain while needed to run your account or handle legitimate safety and legal matters. Your device can store authentication, preferences and offline copies of content. Optional choices can be reset in Privacy & Safety; signing out clears the current app’s offline database and cached profile. Other devices, recipients’ copies, server records and backups are separate. A precise production backup-retention schedule is still subject to operator confirmation.

Your rights

You may seek access, correction, erasure, portability or restriction, withdraw optional consent, and object where applicable under Nigeria’s data-protection law. Use the app’s data download and request form, or email support. The download contains your profile, posts and media links, comments, sent messages, stories and privacy requests; ask for access to additional records through the request form. We may need proportionate identity checks and may redact another person’s information.

Account deletion

Choose Request account deletion in Settings and verify your password. This immediately deactivates your account, revokes all sessions and creates an erasure request for the team. Permanent erasure requires a separate review; deactivation is not confirmation that every copy has been erased. We aim to review requests within 30 days and will explain any delay. Contact support with your request number for updates. The team must address database records, uploaded files, processors, backups and any lawful retention before confirming completion. If you cannot sign in, contact support.

Young users

The service is for university students aged 16 and above. A 16+ confirmation is not proof of age or parental consent. Where law requires a parent or guardian’s consent or another safeguard, it must be obtained before the relevant processing. See our child-safety standards.

Complaints and changes

Contact support with privacy concerns. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Material changes to this notice will be published with a new date; any new consent-dependent use requires its own choice.
